FC Front suspension reconditioning.
I wanted to get the front suspension reconditioned in the FC to make sure it steers properly. It made sense to get it done whilst it was removed from the car during the painting process.
I found most of the parts needed are available on ebay and rarespares. Each side has 4 pins/ shafts - upper inner, upper outer, lower inner and lower outer. I also replaced bits like the idler shaft and drag link kit.
Light Wheel Alignment Specialists in adelaide city were chosen for the job. Wayne the owner has good experience back to FJ and one of the few places that can still do king pin reaming.
The kingpins were replaced with 0.010" oversize units from rarespares. You can buy just the kingpin kit or the whole changeover assembly from rares.
On Waynes advice I chose to purchase pins alone, and had the suspension guys to do the reaming. This part needs to be done by an experienced person with the correct tools. The result is the FC should steer great from day 1. The changeover kits can be a bit tight and take a while to wear in. This results in the steering being too stiff and not going to back to centre itself when you let go of the wheel.
1 little hurdle was the front shocks were the wrong type. I have now received the correct monroe shocks for the front suspension.
